Art Insight: Graffiti arttist - SkopeOne

By Lu Yawen

Considered as one of the pioneers of Singapore's graffiti scene, Skope One was part of Operation Art Core (OAC) when it was established in 1994. Modestly crediting the press in London for giving him 'godfather' status to graffiti here when he was painting on political issues there, Skope One hasn't stopped pushing the conservative envelope.
Just two years after picking up spraycans, Skope One joined OAC and the rest they say is history. Traveling to the UK, Japan and France, he has brought his tongue-in-cheek messages to galleries, conventions and the streets, working with like-minded artists as well.
Closer to home, Skope One exhibited at The Resistance Movement exhibition last year and recently completed a mural for Facebook Singapore Headquarters along with graffiti artists Antz and Trase1. He tells us that he might head to Italy and Japan for a show in the near future.
Daring to include strong opinions and political messages in his works, it's apparent that Skope One remains one of the graffiti artists who are respected not just for his technical art skills but his courage.
