The West Africa Sustainability Summit & Awards (WASSA) 2026, the region’s premier annual platform dedicated to advancing the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda across West Africa and the broader African continent, will convene key stakeholders to advance dialogue, learning, networking and practical action on sustainability, scheduled to hold on October 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ballroom, Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.


This year’s summit, themed “Accelerating Africa’s Green Transition: People, Planet & Prosperity,” is organised by The Sustainable Report Africa Media Limited, a global news and ratings leader focused on sustainability, providing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) research, ratings and analysis on organisations and institutions, including assessments of their environmental and social impact and their contribution to the continent’s transition towards a more sustainable future.


This year’s summit reflects the need to pursue climate and sustainability objectives without losing sight of human development and economic opportunity. The three pillars place social inclusion, environmental protection and broad-based prosperity at the centre of Africa’s transition.


Discussions at WASSA 2026 will focus on six thematic pillars: ESG Integration and Corporate Accountability; Climate Finance and Green Investment; Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security; Youth, Gender and Inclusive Sustainability; Policy, Regulation and the Green Economy; and Technology, Innovation and the Digital Green Transition.


The Event will explore issues ranging from sustainable business practices and climate financing to renewable energy, green investment, sustainable agriculture, carbon markets, biodiversity, digital technologies and inclusive economic development.


The summit will also place strong emphasis on the role of young people and women in Africa’s green transition. With a large and youthful population, West Africa has an opportunity to turn its demographic strength into an engine for green entrepreneurship, innovation and job creation.


Another major highlight will be the West African Sustainability Awards, WASSA AWARDS 2026, which will recognise organisations and individuals making measurable contributions to the environmental, social and governance landscape across West Africa and the wider continent.


The Awards will span Corporate Excellence, Leadership & Impact, and Innovation & Sector Awards, celebrating sustainability initiatives and leadership across different sectors, the awards process is designed to maintain credibility and transparency, with nominations evaluated by an independent panel drawn from academia, civil society, the private sector and international development organisations.
