Facebook is working on allowing under 13 year olds to sign up to the social network.
According to a new patent that the social media giant has filed for, the company has designed a system that will allow children under the age of 13 to create accounts when the information can be matched to their parent’s own profiles.
Parents will be able to access the child’s account and privacy settings.

The system will comply with the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (Coppa), which currently prohibits children under 13 from using services online that will collect data without explicit parental consent.
The patent was filed back in 2012 but has only just been made public.
7.5 million Facebook users are under the age of 13, according to Consumer Reports, but this number could rise if this age group is legally allowed to make profiles.
