Instagram, the photo-sharing social app, has reached 200 million monthly active users, it has announced in a blog post.
The announcement comes almost 13 months after the Instagram announced that it had reached 100 million users.
Instagram was acquired by social networking giant Facebook for $1bnback in April 2012 and has acquired 170 million new users since then. Fifty million have joined in the last six months alone.
A spokesperson for Instagram said: “From documenting a passion for jazz to the protests in Kiev, we’re continually surprised and humbled by the moments you share. As we exceed 20 billion photos shared on Instagram to date, we look back in wonder at the beauty and importance of everything this community has created.”
