Tim Tebow Blesses, Trademarks Tebowing

 by Mark J. Miller

The act of Tebowing, kneeling on one knee and putting one fist to a bent head in the manner of New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow, may be so last year, but the trend is still rolling across the globe. People have Tebowed at the Vatican, on top of the Empire State Building, as David Bowie, in Hong Kong, and even on top of an alligator.
Tebow, who is proud to be an ultra-religious role model, has called the fad “a blessing.” And now it may be a financial blessing as well.  The 25-year-old NFL pro now owns the trademark to Tebowing. So watch out, all you high school and Pop Warner football players. If you choose to Tebow, you could pay the price.
Actually, Tebow claims that he didn’t want the trademark to make extra money (he’s in the middle of a five-year, $11.2 million contract) — he just wants to be sure that people are using the sacred act for the right things, the Washington Times reports.
"I knew it was something that was cool for me in the past,” Tebow said, according to Yahoo! Sports, “but it's not something I do as Tebowing. It's something I do that's prayer for me and it got hyped as Tebowing. I think one, more to control how it's used as well. Make sure it's used in the right way.''
So don’t be doing it if you’re not praying.
If Tebow does want to glorify the Tebowing name through branded T-shirts, wristbands, and rosaries, of course, the opportunity is now all his. This trademark news probably spells doom for such sites as Tebowing.com and TebowingGear.com, which have both gotten unhappy letters from Tebow’s reps, Yahoo! reports.
Sorry, gang. Your Tebowing is going to have to get a little more serious.
