Facebook reports mobile ad revenue growth

Mobile ad revenues constitute 14% of Facebook’s overall ad revenue, the company has revealed in its third quarter results.
Facebook’s ad revenue stood at $1.09bn (representing 86% of total revenue), up from $992m in the second quarter. Out of the total ad revenue figure, mobile ad revenue stood at $140m towards the end of Q3, largely due to 600 million people using Facebook on mobile devices.
Facebook’s overall revenue figure was $1.26bn in Q3, compared to$1.18bn in Q2. The social networking giant, however, registered a net loss of $59m in the July-September period.  
Facebook registered 1.01 billion monthly active users in Q3 2012, an increase of 26% year-on –year. This figure stood at 955 million in Q2. Third quarter costs and expenses were $885m, compared to $1.93bn in the second quarter of 2012.
Facebook made several changes in Q3 to spur its mobile growth including rebuilding Facebook for iOS, updating messenger for Android and iOS, launching mobile app install ads and making Facebook camera available in 18 languages.

Other initiatives by the company in Q3 include the creation of Facebook Stories, a website to share the stories of people using Facebook and the acquisition of Instagram.
“People who use our mobile products are more engaged, and we believe we can increase engagement even further as we continue to introduce new products and improve our platform,” says Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg.
