Nike Opens Facebook Shoe Boxxxx for Sneaker Heads

by Mark J. Miller

Remember Air Jordans? Or the Nike shoes in the “Back to the Future” films? Or, well, the bazillions of other Nike designs that have hit store shelves since the company changed its name from Blue Ribbon Sports to Nike back in 1978?
Well, that’s OK, you don’t need to remember anything anymore. Thanks to the beauty of online, you can save those brain cells that were hanging onto every detail and spec of all Nike products and now depend on Nike’s new Shoe Boxxxx game on Facebook.
Available in English and Japanese, fans can “collect and trade the shoes with your friends, or even with those whom you’ve never met yet,” according to Adverblog. If that weren’t enough, Sneaker Heads can spend as much time as they want on there telling one another stories about one set of sneakers or another as well as “win the right to buy them.”
The way it is set up is that each visitor to the site will “play” the game and initially receive three pairs of online sneakers for trading if they so choose. When you trade, you gain points and possibly new pairs of shoes. Then they can show off their shoe collections online and check out other people’s collections as well.
Nike has company online when it comes to going after the Sneaker Head market. Foot Locker launched its version of Wikipedia back in May, a one-stop resource about sneakers entitled – what else? – Sneakerpedia.
One nice thing about virtual sneakers — nobody can tie them together and throw them over a telephone wire.
